The author walking back to his home in the darkness finds the temple door shut and is surprised that even the temple tower light (gopura vilakku) has been turned off! What is the reason, he wonders. In this well-known story, Thija crafts a moving drama on the circumstances that led to the switching off of the light that night while holding a mirror to the darkness within us.

I literally had tears in my eyes….what a story ….it came alive in my mind with all the characters and the place, the street, the window the agraharam….how terrible life of that destitute girl. Wonder what her mother did to survive after her daughter’s death which unknowingly happened by her own hands. Alas if we had a time machine to go to that era and help that family. Thank you so much for the wonderful narration !!
