Payasam in Netflix

Thija’s short story “Payasam” has been made into a short film in the Netflix anthology series “Navarasa”. Directed by Vasanth, Payasam’s premise is used to invoke the emotion of “Bheebatsa/Disgust”. Do watch and enjoy this interesting and well done screen adaptation of the famous short story.

Mechiyunai

Thija’s daughter Uma Shankari has written Mechchiyunai – a photo story in Tamil on Thija’s life from his humble beginnings to the writer he then became. In her own words, “A year ago I came to know about a Facebook page called “Thij. Janakiraman Ilakkiya Vattam”. I found many young people writing about Thija’s writing very appreciatively.  Two or three generations have come to be born after Thija’s death in 1982. They would have no opportunity to know how he looked, what he did and so on. I felt it would be a good idea if I can do a photo story on him- share reminiscences and an outline of his life.
